Yoshikawa Haruno (吉川 春乃) is a second year student of Seidou High School and one of Sawamura Eijun's classmates who is also a manager of the baseball team, just like she always wanted to be.

Character and Appearence[]

She has dark brown eyes and hair, which reaches down past her shoulders till her upper back. She wears her hair down straight in class, and puts it in a ponytail while conducting manager duties.

Yoshikawa is a clumsy young woman and as a result of her clumsiness, she often makes more work for her seniors, sometimes exasperating them. Despite her admiration towards the team, she is somewhat shy and finds most of them too intimidating to speak to. She is dedicated towards the team and her duties as manager as she collected newspapers featuring the team's results into a notebook, with it being revealed that she even saves screenshots of the internet articles covering the team, even of those featuring less well-known players such as Asou and Maezono[4].

Relationships[]

Sawamura Eijun[]

At the start of being a manager, Yoshikawa was a little depressed because she thought that she was only a nuisance for others. But then she witnessed a quarrel between Sawamura and a teacher during class and was impressed by him, because even though he got laughed at for stating his goal in front of everyone, he still worked hard towards his goals. She states that she really likes people who are "as stupid" as him, and reveals that there’s one thing she has always wanted to do: "Support the players who are working their hardest to reach their goals." [4]

She developed a strong relationship with Sawamura afterwards suggesting for him to use a tire in running practice (which he is know famous for), and handing him training plans from his catcher. Additionally she is often seen cheering for him in the stands. She also shows surprise at who Wakana Aotsuki is rumored to be to Sawamura, when the managers discuss his junior high friends coming to see him after the semi-finals match in the summer. She behaves similarly in the Fall tournament Arc, cheering him on and the rest of the team. She's also shown a few times watching him in Class, and one time wanting to talk about the Manga he was reading as she has all its volumes.

In Act II, she is once again in the same class as Sawamura Eijun and has several interactions with him. In the first day of class when the girls surround Furuya's , she expresses concern before realizing that Sawamura is with him. She seems to rate Sawamura highly, with her scowling when some of the girls in the stands mocked his previous fall. She expresses excitement at Sawamura's growth as a pitcher saying she wished she could have seen the match against Hakaryuu and seen reading the article released about him. Also shown marvelling at his pitching vs Naruta Industrial. She admires how Furuya and Sawamura are both rivals and teammates, pushing themselves forward.

Pictured seen cheering in the stands with the other managers during the tournament matches.

Umemoto Sachiko and Natsukawa Yui[]

Sachiko and Yui are Haruno's fellow team managers. Because of her clumsiness, Haruno often causes more work for them, which leads to them getting exasperated sometimes. But after some initial difficulties, they get to know each other really well and start to work together as reliable teammates.

Fujiwara Takako[]

Takako is Haruno's reliable senpai. It was a tearful farewell when Takako and the other third years retired. Like Takako, Haruno is the lone team manager of her generation. She was entrusted with a notebook about the team from her.

Kuroki Anna and Oda Akane[]

They are her underclassman who serve as managers in Act II. They seem to have a good relationship with Akane claiming Haruno is so nice. She helps teach them how to do the manager role, such as showing them how to fill in the baseball scorebook, make onigiri and carry equipment.

Etymology[]

  • Yoshikawa means "lucky, good" (吉) (yoshi) and "river, stream" (川) (kawa).
  • Haruno means "spring" (春) (haru) and "from" (乃) (no), which literally means "of spring" altogether.

Trivia[]

  • She is known to be forgetful sometimes, such as when she rushed to buy all the sports newspapers in a convience store after Seido won the Fall Tournament only for her to not have money in her purse.
  • She serves as a narrator in OVA 4 - The Seido Diary, and Act II Episode 29 - After Spring Comes.
  • In the class scenes she's shown dicussing the baseball team with two of her friends, Nishino and another girl.
  • When Katoaka Tesshin is introduced as a teacher for their class in Year 2, she is the only character seen who wasn't sweating.
  • She recognizes Seido's former coach Sakaki when he appears during the intersquad match, it's revealed she watched Seido play at Koshien as a kid.
