A Clash (Gekitotsu, 激突) is Episode 5 of the Diamond no Ace Anime series. The episode follows the storyline from chapter 9 to 12.

Summary[]

The match between the first years and their upperclassmen takes place (the first-string members aren't playing). Sawamura is allowed to participate. The Upperclassmen are willing to show their strength and determination. It’s a match without mercy and most of the tenth graders are about to give up until Sawamura gets the chance to get a run with the help of Haruichi Kominato.

Synopsis[]

The game between the first years and the upperclassmen is inching ever closer and, ever ignorant, Sawamura doesn’t even know until Miyuki tells him about it. Things get heated when Furuya proclaims that he won’t let anyone hit his pitches in the exhibition game.

After a chance meeting with the coach at the bath, Sawamura’s going to pitch. He proclaimed that he never wants to see another person on the mound. He betrayed his junior high friends to play here, so how can he cheer on another pitcher?

The game, as always, is where the action is. The upperclassmen are pumped up after Furuya’s proclamation and, of course, they don’t want to be shown up by first years. And this is the last chance to show their stuff to the coach for the chance to play in a real game.

It’s Sawamura who pumps everyone up for the start of the fourth inning. No one wants to play. They’re 10 runs behind after the third inning and the first years have given up. But why did they come here? To just complain about how hard it is? No. They came to play baseball. Furuya, in one pitch, proved he came to play baseball. He’s quickly promoted to the first string while Sawamura is still struggling to play pitcher.

Sawamura's at bat and Kawakami's the pitcher. Kawakami quickly corner shim but on the third pitch, the catcher drops the ball. From the dugout, shouts to Sawamura that it's not over, and Sawamura gets on base.
