Sawamura is getting infuriated with Chris leaving practices early and leaving additional workouts for him to do. He talks to Rei and Miyuki about it, but his words make Miyuki furious. Rei then shows Sawamura where Chris is going to and what he's always doing after practice.

But Chris helps Sawamura figure out what he's lacking.

Furuya strike out Akikawa's fourth batter but Shunshin doesn't let the battery recover scoring two RBI's. At Seidou's offense, Kuramochi and Ryosuke try to execute Seidou's strategy of pressuring Shunshin but things aren't going the way they had hoped.

Seidou is faced with a situation where Furuya's pitch count rapidly increase, and his stamina is in question due to the heat. Kataoka eventually replace him with Sawamura, who surprise the batters with his form and moving fastball.

Miyuki outplays Shunshin and Seidou ties the game. Sawamura continue to strike Akikawa's batters, but Kuramochi and Ryosuke still fail to get on base. Kataoka makes his move, having Haruichi warm-up while Tanba pitch at the bullpen, shocking Shunshin and his teammates.

Tanba's presence in the bullpen pressures Akikawa while Sawamura impress the audience, Chris and Kataoka with his pitching. Seidou's batters begin their assault starting with Haruichi, Kuramochi then Ryosuke. The clean-ups follow suit and Kawakami successfully close the game.

Seidou makes it to the top eight, and they stay to watch the match between Ichidai High and Yakushi High. Ichidai display their batting prowess early in the game but their ace, Manaka is shaken after Yakushi's freshman and clean-up Todoroki Raichi hits a two-homer in the bottom of the first, shocking everyone.

After a fierce batting match-up, Ichidai lose to the dark horse, Yakushi High. Seidou's freshmen trio later hear Raizou remark that the only pitcher left in West Tokyo worth Raichi's time is Inashiro's Narumiya Mei. Sawamura and Furuya are super motivated to win, while Haruichi tells the team of the remark that also, fires them up.

Seidou and Yakushi make their preparations for their upcoming match-up. Kataoka reveals the pitchers order for the game: First is Furuya, Sawamura then Kawakami. Tanba on the other hand, practice with his peers. At game time, Yakushi changes their batting order, putting Todoroki Raichi as the lead-off batter. Miyuki tells the freshmen pitchers not to get too fired up, reminding them to simply focus on their pitcher relay strategy.

Yakushi is after Furuya's fastballs, scoring a run on top of the first. Miyuki reminds Furuya that he's got reliable teammates defending behind him and another one in front of him. At the bottom, Seidou's batters follow suit scoring multiple runs.

At the start of Yakushi's second batting cycle, Sawamura replaces Furuya on the mound while the latter goes to left field in place of Sakai. Sawamura face-off against Raichi and jams the batter. Seidou continue their attack, and with Yakushi down by four runs, Raizou sends the ace, Sanada Shunpei to the mound.

Sanada's presence on the mound improve the mood of his team, and despite being an upgraded version of Sawamura, the freshman pitcher square off with him in striking out batters. Sawamura gets to face Raichi once more. And this time, Raichi scores a two-homer, affecting Sawamura's mental state. Kataoka makes the call to switch him out with Kawakami. And though Yakushi scores another run, Masuko pulls off a save to keep the game's momentum at Seidou's side.

Yuuki hits a homerun off Sanada putting Seidou's lead up by two. On top of the eighth, Yakushi takes back one run with the combined efforts of their freshmen batters. After the fourth and fifth batters, Yakushi's got runners on first and third. In the moment that may turn the game around, Sanada is up at-bat, and Kataoka makes a move, switching Kawakami with Tanba.

In the battle between Seidou and Yakushi's aces, Tanba strike out Sanada with the curveball. Seidou's batters attack aggressively in the bottom of the inning, expanding their lead. Yakushi however, has not given up on the game despite being down by three, and Raizou reveals his plan of turning the game around.

Seidou prepares for their upcoming semi-final match-up against the veteran quarter finalist of the west, Sensen Academy. At Sensen, Maki Yousuke, ace of the baseball team, throws heavily in the bullpen, admitting that he had in fact wanted to go to Seidou but wasn't invited in the end.

The semi-finals begin, and Sensen take an early lead in the bottom of the third. Seidou's batters focus on hitting Maki's curveball and ties the game on top of the sixth.

With the bases once again loaded, Haruichi is sent to the batters box in Tanba's stead and hits Maki's curveball, expanding Seidou's lead to three. At the bottom of the sixth, Sawamura steps on the mound and Sensen executes their strategy of pressuring the pitcher. With Sensen in the position to score, Miyuki calls for a timeout but is turned down by Sawamura.

Kuramochi suspects Ryosuke's leg must be really bad. At Seidou's defense, Ryousuke fumbles but Kuramochi is quick to cover for him.

Furuya strikes Raichi out and hold Yakushi scoreless. Sawamura asks permission from Kataoka to pitch but Kataoka declines him.

Furuya is sent to the left field and Sawamura replaces him on the mound. Sawamura intends to make Kataoka acknowledge him, but ends up pitching meatballs and giving up runs.

Miyuki tells Kataoka that Sawamura is deeply affected by the deadball during the Finals against Inashiro. The game ends with Yakushi's victory. Seidou prepares for the upcoming Fall Tournament, and so are the other teams that have played last summer.

At the Fall Tournament block games, Furuya wears the ace number and shine in both pitching and batting. Sawamura is finally allowed to practice in the bullpen but still struggles to pitch to the inside. Chris arrives to help.

Chris wants Sawamura to learn how to pitch low and away. Furuya pitch poorly on the third round of the block games and is quickly switched out. Ochiai observes from the gallery and later informs Miyuki and Furuya of his coaching policies.

The third years find out that Kataoka's resigning after the Fall Tournament and wonders what they can do. Yuuki later asks Kataoka's permission to have their retirement game be held sooner, wanting to teach their underclassmen all they have learned from him. The coach however, takes it as a request for a practice match with the current team and Yuuki accepts.

The team finds out about Kataoka's resignation affecting their play. Miyuki however, takes Yuuki's advice about being firm as the captain in the face of adversities, and guides the team.
