To the Dream Stage
Emergency (Kinkyū Jitai, 緊急事態) is Episode 20 of the Diamond no Ace Anime series. The Episode follows the story line from chapters 57 to 59.
The practice game between Seidou and Shuuhoku continue. Tanba expresses his desire to become a better ace and his team supports him. At-bat however, he is hit by a dead ball.
SynopsisEditTanba is doing well pitching the forkball, but Rei is concerned whether Tanba can conquer his biggest weakness. At the bench, Tanba tells Miyuki that he want plays centering on the forkball for the last three innings of the game, but Miyuki thinks otherwise. Miyuki explains that they don't need to pitch more with Inashiro Industrial's team watching, and that one forkball was enough to disrupt their opponent. But at the back of his mind, is that Tanba's pitches slow down in the second half, thus doesn't like to use a pitch that requires a lot of grip strength. Tanba however, remains firm. Kataoka asks Tanba's true intentions to which Tanba answers that he's doing this to conquer his own weakness so he can truly become the teams ace. Miyuki finally agrees to do what Tanba wants after hearing him, while the freshmen pitchers, Sawamura and Furuya, realize what it takes to be an ace as they watch their sempai's tease Tanba for speaking up his mind.
The umpire calls out the next batter which turns out to be Tanba. The first pitch however, hits Tanba right in the face and he falls to the ground. Kataoka rushes to his aid and asks for the game to end. Shuuhoku's coach agrees. The team was later on informed that Tanba might not make it to the Summer Tournament prelims, as a result, the team’s morale is deflated.
At practice, Sawamura and Furuya works on fundamentals with Chris, then reminds the two after, to also prepare for the upcoming final exams. Sawamura begs Kanemaru Shinji to help him study, to which Kanemaru reluctantly agrees. On the field, practice lacked it's usual energy. Kataoka summons Yuuki and Isashiki telling them to lift the team's spirit, and gives them the instruction to practice at the bullpen every after field practice. Later that afternoon, Sawamura and Furuya sees Yuuki and Isashiki throwing pitches at the bullpen. This shocks the duo but is encouraged to improve themselves.
